Hi team,

The past quarter was outstanding in brand exposure, but not so good for launching timing. We scheduled everything to launch by the first week of September, but with all the code and art done, it did not felt right to launch it without a clear roadmap to go forward.

The End Goal of Ludus has always been to allow everyone to play sports for free, but as the NFTs and Club were coming up, the end goal started to fade away. I got the opportunity to attend both ETH Quito and Devcon this year and listening so much about what fundamentally Ethereum stands for and the importance of Public Goods at some of these conferences got me thinking…

However, the need for a Club does not exclude the End Goal of a public good, it is the spaceship that will lead us there.

The spaceship is already designed, it is a Decentralized Sports Club, that will sell memberships in the forms of dNFTs (dynamic NFTs) to fund its digital infrastructure.

Why a Club?

A traditional club usually sells memberships to build physical infrastructure for its member to access. We are bringing both community and funding to a sports-focused project. Similar to a club, we will be selling memberships, but we will be using the funds to build a digital infrastructure(App) that will lead us to the End Goal of creating a Public Good which will be the Ludus League and Ludus Tournaments where all athletes will be able to participate in.

Why decentralized?

Because all members of our club (Athletes) have direct ownership over our economy and weighted reputation power over the decision-making of the products that the club produces. Since there is no physical location of our club, only digital, the matches of the Ludus League and Ludus Tournaments can take place in any approved field or court.

So what is the roadmap?

It is a two-step plan:

First step:

With the long-awaited sale of our Athlete memberships, with the funds, we will build digital infrastructure, software, in essence, an App that will be the Club accessible to the members (Athletes).

To begin with, there will only be two types of memberships:

Athletes memberships (ERC-721): Find the nearest coach, and trade merchandise, which will have all the access to the club features, such as: Creating your own League and Tournament. Direct ownership over our economy and weighted reputation power over the decision-making of the products that the club produces. (25 $Ludus)

Public Athlete memberships (ERC-1155): Find the nearest coach and trade merchandise, but you will only be allowed to participate in the Ludus Leagues and Tournaments that are eligible for. (Free to mint)

Second step:

We will be following the original MVP infrastructure, with the implementation of our tokenomics.

Original MVP, May 2020

Our mission is to create a free to use App that Athletes all over the world can use, to become a Public Good.

So, what is a public good and why is it so important?

Public goods are goods that are commonly available to all people within a society or community and that possess two specific qualities: they are non-excludable and non-rivalrous. Everyone has access to use them, and their use does not deplete their availability for future use.

  • Non-excludability — Individuals or groups of individuals can’t be specifically excluded from using the goods
  • Non-rivalry — The use of the goods by some individuals doesn’t cause a reduction in their availability to others, which would thereby violate the first quality

In this case, Ludus will offer a Ludus League that will be non-excludable, meaning any Athlete will be able to participate in. And is non-rivalry because the more people join in to play the bigger the competition gets.

So what are the following steps to get out of the Athletes and start this new journey?

Well since this is a mission to create a public good, we need to inform the public what we are doing, and that our answer to solving the problem of sports of a public good has to come from within a club from inside to outside. And even though we have done some great numbers in the past quarter we can and need to grow a bigger audience to share this story with!

In the following quarter, we will be uploading: the public good as a club, and the benefits of starting as a public good. We will also start recording in Spanish to grow a larger audience, and in different formats to give more context to the idea.

Here is some data to share with you about how much we have grown in the past quarter:

To conclude, coordination has not been easy, and for this launch, we all have to be on the same page. There is a community out there that is ready to support this idea and I will do my best to inform everybody of what we are trying to do, and possibly look for an option for people that are non-crypto to participate. Nevertheless, this quarter has been more bullish than the past one, and there are amazing people that have made this possible and that want to participate in this idea that has grown so much, really excited for what is to come, for a better future.
